Police Name Victim in Fatal Columbia Crash (UPDATED)

An Elkridge woman died in a single-vehicle collision on MD 32 East.

Sarah Marie Stebbins, 21, of the 6800 block of Norris Lane in Elkridge, died Sunday afternoon in a single-car collision on MD 32, said Howard County police.

At approximately 4 p.m., Stebbins was behind the wheel of a Nissan Xterra on MD 32 East when her vehicle drifted off the left side of the road and struck a guardrail, said police. The vehicle continued onto the bridge that passes over US 29, where the Xterra "lost control," struck a concrete jersey wall and rolled over, coming to rest on the driver's side, according to a press release.

Preliminary findings indicated Stebbins was speeding and not wearing her seatbelt, police said. Stebbins was partially ejected from her vehicle and was pronounced dead, said police.

All lanes on MD 32 East were shut down for three hours while officials cleared the scene. Police are still investigating.

Sarah and I were child hood friends, growing up together, our family’s were fairly close, her mom grew up with my mom. She was always a dreamer, a goal getter, never said never, as a kid her imagination soared, we invented games, had shows…. She only ever wanted the best for others. She was coming home from work early. It never should of happened. A tragic accident. A huge blow the her family. My thoughts, wishes, heart, prayers, tears, and help goes out to her mother, father, sister and brother. You know that if you need any thing we are just a heartbeat away RIP Sarah
