Northfield Elementary School Evacuated Due to Unusual Odor: Officials

There was a strong odor, fire officials said.

Public safety officials evacuated Northfield Elementary School after an unusual odor was reported coming from the cafeteria around 11:40 a.m. Thursday, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

A malfunctioning HVAC unit was the cause, according to Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services.

The all-clear was given and students were allowed back in before noon, the department reported.
