(Update) No Injuries, Severe House Damage in Ellicott City Fire

Authorities say the fire started in the garage.

Updated 2/10 4:15 p.m.: No one was home when a fire broke out at a house at 2710 Dunleer Road, according to Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Jackie Cutler.

Fire and rescue personnel responded to the scene just before 2 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls from neighbors, Cutler said. The fire--which started in the garage--did not spread, but the rest of the house was damaged by smoke.

The fire, at a two-story, single-family home at 2710 Dunleer Road, started at about 1:55 p.m. according to Jackie Cutler, spokeswoman for Howard County Fire and Rescue.  The fire was put out in about 40 minutes.

Cutler said she did not yet know if anyone was home when the fire started. Investigators have located one of the house’s residents and were interviewing her at about 3 p.m.

The preliminary investigation shows that the fire began in the garage, which was still smoldering at a little before 3 p.m. The rest of the house was severely damaged by smoke, according to Cutler.

Roads leading to the Dunleer Road house were blocked while more than 40 fire, rescue and police officials were on the scene.
