Naked Man in Centennial Park, Burglaries in Columbia: Howard County Crime Roundup

Centennial Park: Indecent exposure (with arrest)

A Columbia man was arrested after allegedly being seen naked at Centennial Park.

Derrick Rodney Rees, 46, of 4971 Moonfall Way, has been charged with one count of indecent exposure, according to the Howard County Police Department. Police said a park employee called them after seeing a naked man near a pavilion. The incident was reported at about 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, May 12.

Rees is due in court on Aug. 25. He also has a court date scheduled for Aug. 16 for another charge of indecent exposure, this one dating back to Dec. 2, according to online court records.

Ellicott City: Burglary

Jewelry and hearing aids were stolen from a residence on the 3100 block of West Springs Drive. There were no signs of forced entry. The burglary happened sometime between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10.

Ellicott City: Burglary and vehicle theft

A motorcycle was stolen from a garage on the 4100 block of Heritage Hill Lane. The suspect or suspects forced entry into the garage. The burglary was reported at 5:35 p.m. on Thursday, May 12.

Elkridge: Robbery

A person was robbed while walking near the intersection of Rowanberry Drive and Orchard Club Drive. 

The suspects approached him, “called him by a different name and demanded money,” police said. They also implied that they had a weapon, and they wound up getting away with money, an mp3 player and prescription medication. 

Descriptions of the suspects were not available. The robbery was reported at about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 12.

Hickory Ridge: Burglary

Laptops and other electronics were stolen from a home on the 11800 block of Winterlong Way. The suspect or suspects got inside through an unlocked front door. The burglary happened sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11.

Hickory Ridge: Burglary

A rocking chair, a CD player and a cell phone were stolen from a home on the 10700 block of Autumn Splendor Drive. The suspect or suspects got inside through an unlocked door. Though the burglary happened sometime between March 11 and April 11, it was just recently reported.

Long Reach: Burglary

A laptop and a video game system were stolen from the 6400 block of Four Foot Trail. The suspect or suspects got inside “by unknown means,” police said. The burglary was reported at 12:43 a.m. on Friday, May 13.

Oakland Mills: Burglary

A television, a printer, a computer, jewelry, clothing and dishes were stolen from a residence on the 5800 block of Thunder Hill Road. The suspect or suspects got inside through a rear window. The burglary happened sometime between Sunday, May 8, and Thursday, May 12.

Hanover: Burglary

A laptop, a tablet computer, jewelry and a purse were stolen from a residence on the 6400 block of William Street. The residence was also ransacked. The suspect or suspects got inside by forcing open a rear door. The burglary happened sometime between 12 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 12.

Columbia, Jessup: Vehicle thefts

- Columbia: A black 2004 Honda Pilot with Maryland license plate 204M543 was stolen from the 9500 block of Sea Shadow. It was reported stolen at 6:01 a.m. on Thursday, May 12.

- Jessup: A white 2012 Freightliner tractor with Maryland license plate 695F23 was stolen from the 8600 block of Washington Boulevard. It was stolen sometime between Friday, May 6, and 4:03 p.m. on Thursday, May 12.

Elkridge: Vehicle theft (and then recovered)

A black 2011 Honda Accord reported stolen from the 7100 block of Collingwood Court on Wednesday, May 11, was later recovered in Baltimore.
