Morning Collision Sends Out-of-Towner to Shock Trauma

Police say the pedestrian tried to cross outside of the crosswalk and was hit by an Ellicott City driver.

A Michigan man was taken to shock trauma Saturday morning after being struck by an Ellicott City driver, according to Howard County Police.

Police say  27-year-old Jacob Carl Lanswerk, of Boyne City, Mich., was crossing Snowden River Parkway in Columbia outside of the pedestrian cross-walk at about 4:54 a.m.

At the same time, police say 20-year-old Haley Celeste McKinney of Ellicott City was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry northeast on Snowden River Parkway. Police say McKinney’s car hit Lanswerk.

The northeast section of Snowden River Parkway was closed until 6 a.m. as police investigated and a helicopter landed to transport Lanswerk to the shock trauma center at University of Maryland.

According to police, he is listed in critical condition.

The Howard County Police Traffic Enforcement Section is investigating the collision and the possibility that Lanswerk was intoxicated.
