Maryland State Police Stop 3,227 Drivers on Fourth of July

Officials reported back on how many drivers were arrested, cited or wanted.

Police said officers would be out in force on the Fourth of July, and troopers issued nearly 4,500 citations and warnings over the holiday, according to Maryland State Police.

The following are preliminary statistics outlining the results of holiday patrols, Maryland State Police reported:

  • 3,227 traffic stops
  • 4,500 citations and warnings
  • 350 repair orders issued for defective vehicle equipment
  • 56 impaired drivers arrested
  • 56 criminal arrests
  • 14 wanted people arrested on outstanding criminal warrants
Police said additional traffic enforcement initiatives are in the works for later this summer on the state roads.

In the air, the Maryland State Police's aviation unit reported that it flew 36 patients to lifesaving care over the Fourth of July weekend.
