Daytime Door Kick-in Burglaries Cease; Investigation Continues

No new break-ins are believed to be related since police issued a warning last week.

The investigation into a string of brazen daytime door kick-in burglaries in Howard County continues after police warned residents to be vigilant last week.

Howard County Police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn wrote in an email that police have not apprehended a suspect and are unable to provide a suspect’s description at this time.

She said the investigation is active. Since police released information related to the burglaries on Sept. 27, there hasn’t been a burglary with a similar style in Howard County, according to Llewellyn.

The 10 break-ins believed to be connected happened over the course of three days from Sept. 24 – 26. In each one, the suspect or suspects would kick in a door, work their way to the master bedroom, ransack it and steal jewelry and other valuables, police said.

In two instances, an unknown suspect kicked in a door at residences where people were home, immediately scaring the suspect off, according to police.

Police reported last week the suspect would come to the door, knock or ring a doorbell to see if anyone was home, then kick in the door and burglarize the residence. If someone answered the door, the suspect would make an excuse and leave, said police.

Police have asked anyone with information possibly related to the break-ins and burglaries to call them at 410-313-2200.
