Indictment for Man Accused of Barging in, Demanding Cigarette

A grand jury Wednesday indicted a Clarksville man who police say

Andrew Kovacs (referred to as Andreas in charging documents), 44, faces burglary, trespassing and assault charges. 

According to charging documents, the victim had just come out of the shower at her home on the 5800 block of Trotter Road when she heard footsteps coming up the stairs and a man yelling for her fiance, adding, "I need a cigarette."

The victim yelled out that she was getting dressed and that her fiance wasn't home, according to her statement to police, and grabbed a towel to cover herself. Then, she said, she ran to the room where her son was playing and tried to close the door.

According to the statement, the suspect, who the victim identified as Kovacs, pushed the door open as the victim tried to close it. 

Kovacs ran into another room, still yelling for the victim's fiance, according to the documents. Then, according to the documents, he went outside to a barn and removed a dirtbike.

Police confirmed later that the dirtbike belonged to Kovacs, but that he had let the victim's fiance hold on to it while he considered buying it from Kovacs.

According to police, when they arrived at the scene, Kovacs said he was mad that the fiance hadn't called him back about buying the dirtbike. He was arrested on the scene. 

Kovacs was released Wednesday on $7,500 bond and ordered not to contact the victim.
