Howard County Police to Recognize Officers, Civilians

The annual awards ceremony highlights excellence in different aspects of police work.

The Howard County Police Department will recognize at a Wednesday night ceremony contributions made in 2012 by some of its officers, civilian employees and volunteers.

Officer Richard Romberger will be awarded the Purple Heart. Romberger was injured in January 2012 when he was struck by a car while on-duty in Mt. Airy, according to the Baltimore Sun.

  • Police Officer of the Year: Raymond Peele
  • Civilian of the Year: Denise Eakle
  • Community Service Award: Cpl. Christopher Krieger
  • First Year Service Award: Police Officer Cylda Hodo
  • Scott Wheeler Traffic Safety Award: Police Officer First Class Christopher Valentine
  • Telecommunicator of the Year: Dispatcher Amy Sanchez
  • Auxiliary Officer of the Year: Wilbert Krizmanich
  • Animal Control Volunteer of the Year: Lisa Klein
  • Explorer of the Year: Justin Weichert

The ceremony is at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Kossiakoff Conference and Education Center at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, 11100 Johns Hopkins Road, Laurel.

Scheduled to attend are Howard County Police Chief William McMahon, County Executive Ken Ulman and Howard County Council Chair Jen Terrasa.
