Howard County Police Say Mom Fooled Attempted Robber

Police searching for a man they say attempted to rob a woman in an ATM vestibule Oct. 10.

Howard County police have released photographs of a man they say tried to rob a mother at an ATM but was apparently fooled when the woman told him police had arrived.

The woman told police she and her 4-year-old daughter were in the Bank of America ATM vestibule in the 9200 block of Old Annapolis Road at about 1 p.m. Oct. 10 when she was approached by a man carrying a weapon and demanding money, police said.

After a cab pulled up to the bank, the woman pointed to it and told the man that police had arrived, officials said.

The suspect walked out of the bank and the woman ran outside with her child, police said.

No one was injured and no money was stolen, and the cab was unrelated to the robbery attempt, according to police.

Police asked anyone who recognizes the man in these photos to call 410-313-STOP (7867).

@Polly So since when is armed robery on "commercial property" (or personal property) NOT the responsibility of the police? Do you think they only protect Government property and people? What planet are you from?

@polly oh and seems you have "issues" with banks? Are you part of that OWS BIT?

@OP GEEZER - First of all I'm from Earth just like you. I stand corrected about it being the police's responsibility to handle armed robberys (note the 2 Bs) however I was actually referring to the safety of the customers as a whole while doing business in their branches. And yes, I actually I do have issues with banks, I resent having to bail them out when they seem fit to compensate their highest levels well into 7 figures. But I also happen to have 20 years of experience as an officer at one of the largest one of BofA's predecessor banks and know a lot more about the inner workings than you ever will. They are among the most unethical bunch. Are you a stockholder? Does any bank have your interests in mind? NO! They answer to their stockholders dimwit. Now do me a favor and crawl back into that dark hole you crawled out of and leave me alone. I didn't attack or demean you and I resent you doing so to me. You redneck POS. Farewell

Hey everyone! Love a spirited debate, don't love personal attacks. As for why this wasn't reported earlier, that's a good question. The ATM robbery was in our crime roundup on Oct. 12: "a suspect approached a victim at an ATM machine on the 9200 block of Old Annapolis Road and demanded money." I definitely don't know for sure, but my guess would be we didn't get a more detailed release because police were working on getting the picture.
