Five Robberies Reported in Five Days: Howard County Crime Reports

Police arrest man after two indecent exposures reported in Columbia.

All information provided by the Howard County Police Department for incidents reported between Oct. 31 and Nov. 4.

Ellicott City


Residential burglary


Police responded to a residential alarm to find a front door forced open in the 3600 block of Folly Quarter Road around noon on Nov. 2. Drawers in the master bedroom were rifled through and an iPad and laptop from the kitchen were stolen.

Marriottsville


Residential break-in

A man was found by a resident inside a home in the 700 block of Marriottsville Road on the evening of Nov. 3. The resident told police the man was non-threatening and appeared to be homeless and cold. Nothing was missing from the residence. The suspect was described as a white male, 16 to 18 years old, wearing dark clothing with shoulder length hair.

Robbery - bike path


A man walking on the bike path in the 6300 block of Tamar Drive was struck in the head and robbed by two men who confronted him around noon on Nov. 3. The men confronted the victim, struck him, then threatened to "stick" him again, according to police. Instead the victim gave the two men his wallet, coat and phone. However, the victim was able to grab his phone back and run toward Rainprint Row. Police described the first suspect as a white male, about 30 to 40 years old, with a dark-colored sweatsuit with shorts over. The second suspect was described as a white male, about 30 to 40 years old, about 5-foot-8, with a dark colored hooded sweatshirt.

Indecent exposure - arrest

In the first incident, a person walking in The Mall in Columbia's parking lot was being followed by a tan Mazda sedan driven by a Hispanic male who appeared to be in his 30s. The victim noticed the man was exposing himself as he drove past around 11 a.m. on Nov. 1.

In the second incident, police said a woman saw a man looking at her in a parking lot near the 6400 block of Old Waterloo Road as she entered a store around 1 p.m. on Nov. 2. When she left the store, she saw the man driving slowly by her in a tan Mazda sedan, exposing himself. An investigation led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man from Elkridge who was charged with indecent exposure.

Robbery - shoes stolen

A man walking in the 6100 block of Clearsmoke Court was chased by five young men and had his shoes stolen around 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 31. Police believe juveniles were involved and said Friday the investigation is ongoing.

Robbery - assaulted by acquaintances

A man was assaulted and had his iPhone and a bag stolen by two acquaintances in the 7100 block of Oakland Mills Road around 2 a.m. on Oct. 31. Police reported on Friday the investigation is ongoing. 

Possible vandalism

Officers found a broken window at Costrotta Construction in the 9500 block of Gerwig Lane on the night of Nov. 1, but nothing was reported stolen and it's unknown if anyone made entry into the business.

Burglary - storage locker arrest

A 24-year-old Columbia man was arrested around 5 a.m. on Oct. 31 after he was seen breaking into storage rooms by opening the doors at a business in the 10600 block of Gramercy Place. The man was charged with fourth-degree burglary and trespassing.


North Laurel


Armed Robbery


A man was approached by a knife-wielding woman as she crossed the Route 1 bridge near the Prince George's County line around 9:20 p.m. on Nov. 3. The woman ordered him to give up his money, so he threw his wallet on the ground in front of her and ran from the scene. Police described the woman as a white female, about 30 to 40 years old, wearing a black and yellow baseball hat with a black jacket and black pants.

Commercial burglary

Someone entered a woman's room at Econolodge in the 9700 block of Washington Blvd. and stole her phone and cash around 4:30 a.m. on Nov. 2.

Residential burglary - handgun stolen

Someone stole a handgun and six watches from a residence in the 9200 block of Fulton Avenue during the evening of Nov. 1. Police reported a rear basement door was kicked in and the house was ransacked.

Residential burglary - cash, electronics, jewelry stolen

A resident returned home to the 9600 block of Barrel House Drive after being away from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 to find the front door ajar and door frame damaged. Police said a credit card, cash, jewelry, clothing and a credit card were reported stolen.

Elkridge


Armed robbery

Two people were robbed by two men armed with a handgun as they returned to their residence in the 6800 block of Guest Call on Nov. 1 around midnight. Police said the two victims were approached by the men after coming back from a shopping trip. The man holding the gun demanded the victim's purse, which was provided. Afterwards the men fled in a black passenger vehicle. Police did not provide a suspect description.

Commercial burglary

Someone cut a hole through an exterior fence at a construction site, and removed a lock from a trailer, but appeared to take nothing in the 7500 block of Hearthside Way overnight on Oct. 31 to Nov. 1.

Burglary arrest

A resident woke up and heard someone walking inside the home in the 7100 block of Fox Harbor Way around 2:45 a.m. on Nov. 1. The person found a male acquaintance inside the home and asked him to leave, but he refused. Police arrested the 35-year-old Ellicott City man and charged him with fourth-degree burglary.

Possible break-in

A stolen bat was found outside a resident that had a broke window and screen cut on Nov. 1 around 4 a.m. The resident at the home in the 5900 block of Avalon Drive called police after a residential alarm was activated. Police do not believe the suspect made entry into the home.
