Technical Difficulties Caused Hum at HoCo's 911 Dispatch Center

Verizon changed the tone of 911 calls on Monday morning.

Howard County's 911 dispatch center had technical difficulties Monday morning, the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services reported.

"Verizon Wireless is currently down," the department said in a statement after 11 a.m. Monday.

"Callers are reporting hearing a hum when they dial," according to the report, which said that despite the hum, dispatchers could hear callers. People calling 911 should provide their name, address and the nature of emergency, officials said.
