Fire Displaces Six Residents Sunday Morning

No injuries, but family's dog hasn't been located, according to Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services.

Six residents have been displaced following a Sunday morning fire in Ellicott City, according to the Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services.

First responders were called to the 2900 block of Poland Springs Drive shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday morning after neighbors contacted 911 regarding a house on fire.

"When firefighters first arrived on the scene, heavy fire and smoke was visible from the first floor, and they began an aggressive interior fire attack," according to department spokesperson Marc Fischer.

The fire spread to the second floor and the attic before fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze. Fischer said about 40 firefighters were at the scene, including assistance from Carroll County firefighters.

The six adult occupants were not at home at the time. No injuries were reported, but the family dog hasn't been located. The American Red Cross has been requested to assist the family.

Fire investigators from HCDFRS’ Fire Investigation Division had not determined the origin or cause of the fire. Damage estimates also were unavailable.
