Family of Six Displaced After House Fire

Crews from four counties came together to knock down the Mt. Airy blaze.

A family of six was displaced after a Thursday evening fire in Mt. Airy which was fought by four different counties, according to a Howard County Fire and Rescue Services spokeswoman.

HCFRS responded to a report of a house fire at the 1600 block of Long Corner Road just after 6 p.m. Thursday, according to spokeswoman Jacqueline Cutler. When they arrived at the single-family home, there was heavy fire coming from the roof and windows, Cutler said.

The six residents who were in the house had evacuated before fire crews arrived; they were safe, but have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross, according to Cutler.

Extra tanker units from Carroll and Frederick Counties came out to transport water from Howard County’s rural water cistern and from the Patuxent River, Cutler said. Baltimore County also assisted in the fight.

In all, Cutler said, more than 30 units came together to fight the blaze, using a specialized large diameter hose, according to Cutler, along with traditional firefighting gear.
