Ellicott City Blogger Killed at Home

Police say Dennis Lane was stabbed Friday morning.

Howard County police have identified a man found stabbed to death in his Ellicott City home Friday morning as blogger Dennis James Lane.

According to a statement from police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn, Lane, 58, was stabbed in his home on the 8100 block of Winding Ross Way.

Lane ran the Howard County blog Tale of Two Cities and co-costed a Howard County Podcast "... And Then There's That" with Paul Scalny.

A family member called 911, according to the statement. When police arrived at the home, they found Lane and a 19-year-old male who Llewellyn identified as a "suspect." Lane was pronounced dead on the scene.

The 19-year-old is believed to be a family friend, according to Llewellyn. He is currently in police custody, according to Llewellyn, but he has not been charged. Police also have a juvenile female in custody, according to Llewellyn.

Police are still investigating the stabbing and trying to identify a motive.

"... And Then There's That" producer David Bittner told the Howard County Times that he was packing up to record the podcast when Scalny called with the news of Lane's death.

"We are stunned and saddened by the tragic loss of our dear, dear friend," Bittner told the Times. "Whenever you get news like that, you don’t want to believe it."
