Elkridge Man's Body Found Below Bloede Dam

Police found the body around 2 p.m. in the Patapsco River.

Police found the body of an Elkridge man in the Patapsco River below the Bloede Dam in Elkridge on Monday afternoon.

Arturo Acosta-Acero, 33, of Elkridge was swimming with two friends above the dam when he was last seen Sunday night, according to police. After his friends couldn't locate him, he was reported missing. Howard County police and fire were unable to locate the man late Sunday night and called off the search at midnight.

On Monday the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police local law enforcement resumed the search in waters just below the dam and located Acosta-Acero around 2 p.m.

A Baltimore Sun report noted Acosta-Acero was located "in churning water in the middle of the river."

Acosta-Acero's body was transferred to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Police said the investigation into his death will remain open until the autoposy is completed, at this point it's not clear if water current above the dam played a role in the death, according to the Sun report.

Bloede Dam, built in 1907, is described by DNR on their website as a public safety concern, that has caused deaths in the past and is an obstacle for fish passage. DNR is now in the process of preparing to remove the dam.
