Elkridge Car Explosion Reports Prompt Police Investigation

The incident occurred at a golf course in Elkridge, police said.

Police say a fiery car was the cause of reports of an early morning explosion Tuesday in Elkridge.

According to police, the department received several calls at about 2:45 a.m. for an explosion in the area of Sandy Ridge Road. When they arrived to the area, they found a car, fully engulfed in flames, on the 9th fairway of Timbers at Troy Golf Course.

Police say someone pushed a 2001 Chevy Impala down an embankment behind the office building at 6000 Marshallee Drive.

The investigation is still in the preliminary stage, according to Howard County Police spokesperson Mary Phelan, but at this time, she said, investigators do not believe the car was set on fire before it was pushed down the embankment.

The car had not reported stolen at the time of the fire, Phelan also said.

Police said arson detectives are investigating.
