Elections Worker Injured in Route 32 Crash

One man was injured in a collision on Route 32 in Glenelg on Monday.

A vehicle carrying a Howard County Board of Elections employee was involved in a collision on Route 32 in Glenelg on Monday, according to Howard County Police.

At 1 p.m., a Toyota Corolla performed an illegal u-turn on Route 32 near Pfefferkorn Road and was struck by a box truck, said police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn.

Llewellyn said the driver of the Toyota, Roy Lee Smith, 55, was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

According to Howard County Board of Elections Director Guy Mickley, Smith was following a truck which had been delivering voting units for the general election. Mickley said the truck was not involved in the collision and had delivered all of its units.

"No documents were involved that have to do with the election process," Mickley told Patch.

Mickley said the documents inside of the vehicle pertained only to the delivery truck's route.

This article has been edited to correct Guy Mickley's title and to indicate that the voting units involved were for the general election, not early voting.
