DUI Checkpoint in Ellicott City Nets 2 Arrests: Police
More than 900 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, police said.
A DUI checkpoint in Ellicott City yielded two arrests overnight, the Howard County Police Department reported.
The checkpoint was set up on US Route 40 at Governors Run Friday night until early Saturday morning, according to the report.
As a result, one person was charged with DUI and another was charged with a drug violation, according to police.

Maryland State Police and Howard County officers made contact with 940 vehicles passing through the checkpoint, providing handouts with statistics about drunk driving, the report said.
Police said that 27 percent of fatal collisions in Howard County in 2013 were related to alcohol.

The DUI checkpoints are part of an ongoing effort to combat driving under the influence, funded in part by a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office, police said.
Citizens should not drink alcohol if they plan to drive and should always designate a sober driver, according to police. Those who see suspected drunk drivers should call 911.
