Catonsville Man Charged in Ellicott City Bank Robbery

The bank was inside the Safeway at the Enchanted Forest shopping center.

A Catonsville man has been charged in connection with a June bank robbery in Ellicott City, the Howard County Police Department reported Friday.

Ryan Lee Cummings, 30, of the 6000 block of Edmondson Avenue in Catonsville, has been charged with robbery, armed robbery, theft and first and second-degree assault, police said.

The charges were raised in connection with a June 9 bank robbery at the SunTrust bank in the 10000 block of Baltimore National Pike, according to police.

Cummings was identified as the suspect with assistance from citizens who saw his photo in news coverage, police said.

After police released surveillance photos of the suspect in the robbery, which was occurred in a Safeway in the Enchanted Forest shopping center, officials said they received information that Cummings may have been involved. 

Police said the suspect went into the bank at approximately 5 p.m. and gave the teller a note demanding money, then left with the cash. Nobody was injured, police said.

Authorities are looking into whether Cummings was involved in additional local bank robberies, according to police.

Police said Cummings is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $150,000 bond.
