Burglars Pose as BGE Workers: Howard County Crime

Residential burglary - Men pose as BGE workers

On Sept. 27 a man posing as a BGE worker entered a residence in the 5400 block of Montgomery Road around 4 p.m. and stole an envelope containing cash. Then, in a second attempt to use the same ruse on Oct. 14, another man entered the residence posing as a BGE worker, but was not allowed in. The man was last seen walking toward Kerger Road. During the ruse, both men had walkie talks.

Commercial burglary - AT&T Wireless

Someone smashed a window at an AT&T store in the 9000 block of Baltimore National Pike and then stole phones and a cash box from the business around 3 a.m. on Oct. 11.

Residential burglary

Police found a basement door forced open and a window pane shattered at a residence in the 4400 block of Ilchester Road on Oct. 11, but they were not able to contact the owner, so it's unknown if anything was taken from the residence.

Jewelry robbery

An employee of Kay's Jewelers at The Mall in Columbia had two rings stolen from her fingers as she showed them to a potential customer at 7 p.m. on Oct. 12. The employee took the rings out of a display case and put them on her fingers to show a potential customer, but then the suspect grabbed the employee's wrist, removed the rings and fled the store.

Construction site burglary

Someone entered a building under construction in the 7500 block of Grace Drive sometime between Oct. 11 and Oct. 14 and stole copper pipe.

Trespassing

Four juveniles were arrested after bing seen partying in a vacant home in the 6300 block of Hanover Crossing Way at 10:49 p.m. on Oct. 11.

Commercial burglary

Three men entered the 2 Go Convenience Store in the 9000 block of Washington Blvd., checked cash registers, attempted to remove a safe, and stole cigarettes. They later fled out a side door into a wooded area, around 1:30 a.m. on Oct. 16.

Construction site burglary

Multiple rolls of copper wire were stolen from a residential construction site in the 7500 block of Hearthside Way around 1 p.m. on Oct. 13. A lock was cut on the fence surrounding the site.

Construction site burglary

Someone cut holes through a fence around a construction site in the 8200 block of Stayton Drive and then stole power tools from trucks and trailers at the site between Oct. 12 and Oct. 14.
