Body of Missing Man Found in Patapsco River: Police

The 27-year-old man went missing on the Fourth of July near Bloede Dam, officials said.

The body of the man who was reported missing Friday afternoon while swimming at Patapso Valley State Park was recovered Saturday, according to WBAL.

Alvaro L. Rivadineira Ordonez, 27, of Cheverly, was located by Maryland Department of Natural Resources personnel around 1 p.m. on Saturday, WBAL reported.

Ordonez was reported missing at 3 p.m. on the Fourth of July, according to Lt. Paul Massarelli of the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The man's family saw him go underwater near a dam/waterfall in the Avalon area, and he didn't resurface, Baltimore County public safety officials said.

Most likely, Ordonez drowned, officials told The Baltimore Sun.

Divers searched for him on Friday afternoon for several hours but the effort was suspended due to challenging water conditions, Massarelli told Patch.

When Ordonez's body was recovered Saturday, the current was so strong that four divers had to be secured to the shore with ropes to find him, according to The Capital.

"Even the best swimmers struggle at Bloede Dam," the Department of Natural Resources Police said Saturday, tweeting a photo of the sign posted there. The sign says: "Danger, Area Closed to Public Use...Drownings Have Occurred" in English and Spanish.

Five people have drowned at Bloede Dam in the last 20 years, WJZ reported last August, on the heels of a drowning there.

According to ABC 2 News, Ordonez's body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
