Three Counties Battle Blaze in Barn Full of Straw
Crews from three counties used 60,000 gallons of water to fight the blaze
Howard County Fire and Rescue was supported by crews from Montgomery and Carroll County Thursday after a barn full of straw caught fire, according to HCFR.
A call came in at about 7:30 p.m. for a fire on the 2500 block of McKendree Road at a Glenwood barn that was close to other buildings, according to Jackie Cutler, spokeswoman for HCFR. When they arrived, she said, there was heavy fire in a barn filled with more than 1,000 bales of straw and a truck.
Four trucks with 3,000 gallon tanks took turns filling up with water at a nearby school, Cutler said. Ultimately, more than 20 HCFR vehicles and eight from other departments used more than 60,000 gallons of water to fight the blaze. As of about 10 p.m., the fire was about 75 percent contained.
