Apple Computer Stolen in 14-Minute Home Burglary: Crime Roundup

Three robberies were reported in Columbia and an attempted break-in in Ellicott City. All information supplied by the Howard County Police Department.

North Laurel

Residential burglary 

A resident of the 9700 block of Covered Wagon left home for 14 minutes on August 4 between at 1:50 p.m. When the resident returned home, the windows, which had been locked, were unlocked and an Apple desktop computer had been stolen from the dining room table.

A resident of the 3900 block of White Rose Way told police she heard someone in her home on August 3 at about 4:35 a.m. when the house alarm went off. Police found damage to the front door, but no one had entered the house. 

Columbia

Robbery

Police say a juvenile was in a parking lot in the 5700 block of Yellow Rose Court on August 2 at about 11:15 a.m. when police said five people wearing ski masks jumped out of a black SUV and began assaulting him. The victim reported cash and a cell phone were stolen. He then went home to tend to his injury, then went to a friend’s house where his friend’s mom called the police. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

A juvenile was walking behind Swansfield Elementary School in the 5600 block of Cedar Lane on August 3 at about 11 a.m. when a man wearing all black clothes and a headband confronted him. The man, who is known to police, grabbed the victim and stole cash.

Police say a man was riding his bike home from a community pool on July 29 at about 10:15 p.m. when he reached the tunnel at Twin Rivers Road and Green Mountain Circle. Four males approached him and one demanded he give them his bike. When the victim said now, the men threatened to assault him, then one of the men grabbed the handlebars and grabbed the bike from the victim.  The primary suspect is described as a short, black male with short hair and a thin build. He was wearing a gray t-shirt and blue jeans.

Residential burglary

Police say someone pulled a screen off of a bedroom window at a home in the 5300 block of Columbia Road on August 4 between 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 p.m. The burglar opened the unlocked window and stole a Play Station 3 gaming system.

Someone entered an unattached garage in the 8500 block of Hayshed Lane on August 3 at about 4 p.m. and stole a bicycle. 

Savage 

Commercial burglary

Management at the Petersen Aluminum Corp., in the 9000 block of Junction Drive, had been noticing discrepancies in the inventory and monetary intake. The company hired a private investigator to watch the business and handed the findings to the Howard County Police Department. The surveillance uncovered a burglar stealing scrap from the business. A 44-year-old Laurel resident was charged with several counts burglary and theft.

Clarksville

Residential burglary 

A resident of the 12200 block of Running Fence Lane noticed – in June - that property was missing from the residence. The resident noticed more property was missing over the past two to three weeks and reported it to police on August 2. The resident does not know how a burglar is getting into the home.
