20 Displaced After Ellicott City Apartment Fire

Five apartments in the building were occupied when the fire began around midnight.

An early Monday morning fire displaced 20 residents at an apartment building on Waterloo Road, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Firefighters arrived the apartments in the 6200 block of Waterloo Road shortly after midnight to find heavy smoke billowing from the attic and an addition to the building. It took about 40 firefighters one hour to put out the fire. Crews worked from the interior and exterior of the building, according to a fire department spokesperson.

Five of the six apartments affected were occupied at the time of the fire. The 20 residents displaced are being helped by the American Red Cross, said firefighters.

Fire investigators are at the scene now to determine the cause of the fire. No damage estimates were immediately available.
