Wegmans: Worth it?

Will you forego your usual grocery store for the new Wegman's in Columbia?

to usher in Howard County's newest mega-grocery store.

Wegmans in Columbia will offer 700 different produce items, 300 kinds of cheeses, and employ 160 chefs.

Ellicott City residents were among those who couldn't wait to step foot inside the store -- -- but Patch wants to know: was it a life-changing grocery shopping experience or ... just another grocery store?

Will you make the trip to Wegmans for your regular grocery shopping or do you plan to stick with your local grocer?

Let us know in the poll, and if you did go to Wegmans on opening day, tell us if it was everything you'd hoped for.

I was one of the 2,000. And, yes, you caught me on camera - I am in picture #30. I feel like I could shop there every day, European style, but expect I'll settle for once or twice a week. Love my Wegmans!

It is the grocery store of the present and the future! I no longer have to travel to Hunt Valley to shop. Neighborhood grocery stores had plenty of warning that Wegman's was coming and did nothing to improve their stores to compete. It's their loss and Wegman's win. Don't judge until you have paid a visit to the new store.

That's quite an endorsement! I'm glad there are more options, that's for sure.

I'm planning on hitting Wegman's for a tour today. It's going to have to be awfully impressive to win me away from Trader Joe's and CostCo, which combine for 90% of my non-delivery grocery shopping, but I'm definitely looking forward to a new option. I hear the aisles are paved with artisan cheeses, and the cash registers decorated with cuts of sushi-grade fish.

How long does it take to get from the check-out to your car, then out of the parking garage?
