Chocolate Covered Grilled Cheese and Bacon Sandwich

The name says it all.

I came across this sandwich on HowChow yesterday and have not been able to stop thinking about it since.

The sandwich is for sale at on Main Street (though it's currently sold out).

"It's got all these great flavors," sweet-shop owner Sue Whary said Tuesday morning. "Salty bacon, the bite from the pepper jack. And of course, chocolate."

The sandwich is grilled, too, Whary said, on French bread.

But she can't take credit for its creation -- that goes to her husband, Rick. And he won't let anyone mess with his baby.

The sandwiches are sold out for now, but will probably be available again this weekend, Whary said.

"Rick likes the odd and unusual," she said with a laugh, listing the edible (and inedible) items that they've covered in chocolate: cheese puffs, Doritoes, potato chips, bacon, Twinkies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, wine bottles.

"You bring a bottle in and we'll dip it in whatever chocolate you want," Whary said. The bottle is wrapped in celophane first, with a bow tied around it. After it has been dipped in chocolate, untie the bow and "there you have it, chocolate and wine."

For seven years, Whary has been making chocolate at Sweet Cascades, covering things in chocolate, eating chocolate - though she said, she hardly ever eats while at work.

The chocolate covered grilled cheese and bacon sandwich may be Sweet Cascades's strangest creation yet, but there's still a world of items that have yet to been coated.

What's next?

Whary laughed: "Who knows what tomorrow will bring?"
