Healing the Inner City of Baltimore with prayers and compassion.

Healing the Inner City of Baltimore with prayers and compassion.

With the amount of recent violence in the City of Baltimore, there is a pressing need for healing and compassion for it's people.  I recently was made aware of an effort by several pastors, church going folks, and others, to do something about it.  The effort is called the "Bless Baltimore Prayer Walk" and it occurs on Friday nights from 7-8pm.  There have also been a previously planned "Bless Baltimore Motorcade." Pastor Michael McDermott of Life Source Church has been working primarily with Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Russell (Baltimore City Police Department) and Councilman Nick Mosby (District 7) on weekly prayer walks through neighborhoods in Baltimore City.  Several people have been wondering why some of the Republican politicians are not participating in this healing process in the heart of the predominantly black neighborhoods of Baltimore.  There now seems to be at least one who is taking on the challenge.

Last weekend, the group was joined by Mr. Charles Lollar, Chairman of New Day Maryland PAC.  Lollar, is an active member of Trinity Christian Center, currently a Marine Corps Reserve Major, and a previous candidate for Congress in Maryland.  He and his wife Rosha participated.  Another participant noted: "this particular walk was to spread God's message of love in the neighborhood we walked through. We handed out flyers for a free neighborhood picnic being held the next day for all the kids. They are having a bounce house, a few other activities, plus giving away two bikes (girl and boy), and giving away hot dogs and beverages. We sang as we walked, and periodically we stopped (5-6 times) while someone gave an uplifting prayer. There was an identical group of walkers on the other side of town doing the same thing we were. There were also some visitors from Brooklyn that do prayer walks up there."  Mr. Lollar actually lead one of the prayers along the walk.

In addition to those mentioned earlier, The Rock Ambassadors of New Solid Rock Fellowship Church have also been participating in the Bless Baltimore Prayer Walks and this healing process.

Another Republican candidate, Frank Mirabile, who ran for Congress in 2012 had done a lot of Baltimore inner city communications during his campaign.  He had this to say about these Prayer Walks:  "Getting in the urban areas and talking to the families that are struggling to make ends meet in the present progressive O'Malley/Brown administration is the honest and right thing to do. You'll find urban working families are just as fed up with the direction of Maryland as conservatives. The urban areas need private sector investment, a stimulus package that is not born of the crony progressives in Annapolis or City Hall. The urban areas need to market to the investors and entice investors by taking control of their neighborhoods, purging the one party government and demanding lower tax rates to entice businesses to make the investment. Partnering with the police departments they need to purge the drug gangs and return Baltimore back to a family oriented city. With the right leadership it can happen. With the right leadership Maryland can become a business magnet once again."
Mr Mirabile is expected to announce soon for the MD HOD District 9A.

Lets hope these efforts continue and have some favorable impact on the Baltimore inner city's problems with joblessness and crime.

NOTE:  I would be remiss if I didn't mention there is a serious ongoing effort to DRAFT Charles Lollar to run for Governor on the Republican ticket in 2014.  You can follow that effort by going to:
