PHOTOS: Route 29 Batman Sports New Batmobile

It's red, black and slick as an old Cadillac. It's the Route 29 Batman's new car, a replica of the 1966 original Batmobile.

, the car's owner, is the man who made headlines across the nation after he was unmasked by a Washington Post reporter as the Batman who visits sick children in hospitals (and as the when his last Batmobile broke down).

Back then, he had to travel to hospitals in a black Lamborghini—a sufficient Batmobile—but now he has a ride with all the bells and whistles.

Jalopnik, a car blog, wrote that Robinson bought the car off a British Columbia firm called Unique Movie Cars and Props:

Robinson's new Batreplica — aka "Anti Crime Roadster," in copyright-free parlance — was built from the ground up, with no donor car. It has a urethane bodyshell, Ford V8 engine and a Ford C6 transmission. It's also got period-correct on-board props like a Bat-radarscope, bat-wing steering wheel and lots of other such paraphernalia, just like the original. 

Robinson first showed off pictures of the car on a July 5 post on the Superheroes for Kids Facebook page.

Robinson, a retired businessman who made his money after he sold a commercial cleaning company he founded, has been visiting sick children in hospitals for 11 years.

The new Batmobile, which cost Robinson approximately $200,000, has been a hit as he's travelled across the country visiting sick children in hospitals, according to the Post article.

“It looks like the Batmobile, and it acts like the Batmobile,” Robinson told the Post. “As much as people liked the Lamborghini, this thing blows that away. I’ve seen people’s mouths literally drop when I’m out on the road.”
