What to Do in an Earthquake

All the things I learned about quakes on 80s television shows quickly escaped me today.

Just last night, I was thinking what would be my next blog. Well, today I (and lots of others) were given something to write about.

I never imagined that living on the East Coast, I would experience an earthquake. Here I am at the age of 33 and have already experienced three. All of them have progressed in intensity. With this last one measuring 5.9, I don't have the desire to feel a quake with a higher intensity.

As a child growing up in the 80s, Saved By the Bell and Beverly Hills 90210 taught me what to do in an event of an earthquake. But today as I worked at my computer at work, I forgot all those television tips. It appears everyone else did, too. Most of us came out of our offices and into the hallway to confirm that yes indeed, the ground was shaking and we were having an earthquake. Others were yelling to evacuate the building until we found out what was exactly going on.

After about two seconds of shaking, I knew it was an earthquake. The building was swaying from side to side, just like earlier this year when we experienced a quake in the early morning hours. Yet, still so stunned that it was happening, I forgot what I should do.

I hope that next time (though would prefer there isn't a next time), I won't be so shocked that the earth is shaking and remember these tips.
