Kevin Kelehan is the honoree for Outstanding Community Supporter of the Arts. “I do not want art for a few any more than education for a few or freedom for a few.” This statement by 19th century artist William Morris describes the longstanding commitment that Kevin Kelehan, a partner with Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett & Scherr, has made to the Howard County arts community. As part of his commitment to making art accessible to the public, Kevin has represented the Columbia Festival of the Arts, the County’s premier two-week summer arts festival, for nearly a decade.  He also worked pro bono with Howard County Government, the Howard County Public School System, and the Arts Council to draft a memorandum of understanding which stipulates the number of days The Jim Rouse Theatre for the Performing Arts is used for community events. The theatre remains a Howard County arts community gathering place.

Kevin invests in our next generation of artists through his support of Howard Community College. He serves on HCC’s Educational Foundation Board and co-chaired the recent Capital Campaign, which helped support the college’s numerous art disciplines.

Kevin also lives out his commitment to the arts – he performs in numerous community theatre productions, patronizes County art and performance venues, and helps raise funds for the arts. A recent fundraising endeavor had him serving as a guest conductor for Columbia Pro Cantare’s spring gala. His support demonstrates his passion for all arts — visual, spoken, crafted, and danced.

Pat & Steve Teller will be honored with a special Legacy in the Arts Award. Pat and Steve have been involved in theater for 42 years. Their artistic journey began when Steve took a government job in Germany and Pat auditioned for The Subject Was Roses at the Frankfurt Army Playhouse. Steve worked backstage while Pat acted and worked the front of the house. Abroad for four years, they “played the Palace” when their production of Man of La Mancha was presented at Heidelberg Castle, they appeared onstage together in a production of Carnival, and again as Sheridan Whiteside and Miss Preen in the Anatolian Players’ production of The Man Who Came to Dinner.

Upon returning to the U.S. they became involved with the Laurel Stagecrafters and the Parks and Recreation-sponsored Gingerbread Players, where Steve was Fagin in their production of Oliver! Pat honed her musical skills, singing with several community and international choruses (often as a tenor because of the lack of male singers) and provided musical accompaniment for chapel services. For the last 27 years Pat and Steve have been an integral part of and worked with the Howard County theatre community. First, with the Columbia Community Players where Pat handled reservations and ticketing while Steve worked backstage building sets, hanging lights, and anything else that needed attention. Now they work with Silhouette Stages where Pat handles ticketing and Steve serves on the Board of Directors. In January 2009, after retirement from Federal Service, Steve was named Technical Director at Slayton House where he works with many community art groups who use the theater for everything from movies, piano recitals, dance presentations, musical and drama shows, meetings, weddings, parties, and even the annual Belly-Dance Extravaganza. Pat and Steve live in Elkridge, MD.
