Arts Council Presents Two New Exhibits, Art HoCo 2013 and Complex Transformations

The Howard County Arts Council announces two new exhibits in the galleries at the Howard County Center for the Arts. Gallery I features the biennial multi-media juried exhibit Art HoCo 2013, featuring 57 works by 39 Howard County artists. Fahimeh Vahdat, Chair of Visual Arts at Howard Community College, served as the juror for Art HoCo 2013, selecting work from among 281entries submitted by 105 artists who live, work or study in Howard County. The work from these talented local artists is wide-ranging and includes painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, fiber art, video, and installation.

Complex Transformations in Gallery II matches Allie Rex’s mixed-media creations of mylar, paint, ink, vinyl, and pins with Eric Standley’s amazingly intricate, gothic- and Islamic-inspired  cut paper designs and Alice Whealin’s ink on acetate drawings, which ‘float’ within their frames, allowing light to infiltrate and redefine their forms. The combined effect is a riotous blend of pattern, texture, and color that delights the eye and mind.

The exhibits will be on display from November 1 to December 13, 2013. A reception for both exhibits, with music and light refreshments, will be held on Friday, November 8, from 6-8PM and is open to the public. Juror Fahimeh Vahdat will make remarks and present the juror’s choice awards at 6:30PM.
