Former Attorneys General Back Brown's Campaign

J. Jospeh Curran Jr. and Stephen Sachs announced their support for Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown's bid to be Maryland's next governor.

Maryland's two previous attorneys general are backing Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown’s bid to be the state’s next governor.

In statements released on Brown’s campaign website, J. Joseph Curran Jr. and Stephen Sachs both endorsed the lieutenant governor’s candidacy on Thursday.

"Joe Curran and Steve Sachs have earned their reputations as tireless advocates for Maryland families and we welcome them to the Brown-Ulman team," Lt. Governor Anthony Brown said in a news release. "By uniting a broad and diverse coalition of supporters, we’ll win this campaign and get to work building a better Maryland for all of our families."

Both Sachs and Curran praised Brown’s record, and said they believe he will be an "exceptional" governor.

"With a long record of serving Maryland’s hard-working families and delivering real results, Anthony Brown is by far the best candidate for Governor in 2014 and I’ll be working hard to make sure he’s elected," Sachs said in the release.

Curran is the father in law of current Gov. Martin O’Malley, who is backing Brown’s campaign. He served as attorney general from 1987 to 2007.

Sachs, who lost to former Gov. William Donald Schaefer in the1986 gubernatorial primary, served as attorney general from 1978 to 1987.

Brown is currently facing Attorney General Doug Gansler and Del. Heather Mizeur for the Democratic Party’s nomination for governor.
