Traffic Alert: MD Route 32 Near Interstate 70

Drivers need to be on the lookout for flaggers and lane closures - or find another route.

You may want to find an alternate route if you drive on Maryland Route 32 late at night or early in the evening.

The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) has started paving work in West Friendship on Route 32 between the Park and Ride – north of Interstate 70 – and Emory Farm Lane.

Drivers should expect flaggers, lane shifts, and lane closures between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weeknights. And there are plenty of drivers who need to take note – about 23,000 drivers per day cruise through that section of Route 32 according to SHA.

P. Flanigan and Sons, Inc. is the contractor whose crews will mill, patch, overlay and re-stripe that one-mile section of the road as part of the $850,000 project which will be completed by fall if all goes well.

In a statement, SHA reminds drivers to stay alert, slow down and be careful on narrow lanes and around workers.
