Things to Know about Ellicott City Today: June 14

Head into the day a little more informed.

The National Weather Service is forecasting another cool day with temperatures reaching the mid-70s. There's also a slight chance of isolated showers in the afternoon.

The Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Board meets today at 6:30 p.m. in the George Howard Building. Check online for a list of current pending licenses. 

The Board of Appeals will continue to hear testimony about the Turf Vally development. A continuation of the case is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the George Howard Building.

If you leave for work later in the morning, check out these lane closures around Howard County. Most of these will be in effect through the end of the month:

  • Interstate 95 northbound at MD 32 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Left and right Shoulder; lanes 1 and 4.
  • MD 32 east and westbound at I-95 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Left and right Shoulder; lanes 1 and 2.
  • MD 100 east and westbound ramp 7 to I-95 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Lanes 1 and 2
  • MD 175 eastbound from Route 1 to Old Jessup Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Right shoulder and lane 2.

And ... On this day in 1922,  Warren G. Harding became the first president heard on the radio. He was broadcast out of Baltimore's WEAR as he dedicated the Francis Scott Key memorial at Fort McHenry.
