Here We Go Again: Severe Storms Headed Our Way

The National Weather Service has issued several alerts, watches and "special statements."

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch Thursday night for most of central Maryland including Howard County as a band of severe thunderstorms move eastward in a line extending from Cockeyesville to Ellicott City.

The storms are producing frequent cloud to ground lightning, according to NWS which warns "If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning." 

According to NWS, the storms are also producing winds faster than 60 mph. As of 10:10 p.m., 2,033 customers were out of power in Howard County, according to BGE.

"This is a dangerous line of storms," according to NWS.

If you are in its path .. prepare immediately for damaging wind gusts and frequent cloud to ground lightning. Move indoors to a sturdy building and stay away from windows.

The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 1 a.m.
