Severe Weather Strikes Ellicott City

A severe thunderstorm passed through Ellicott City Wednesday afternoon, with heavy rain, thunder and lightning. In Oella, just across the river from Main Street, rain fell in sheets with frequent thunder and lightning.

The worst part of the storm lasted only about 35 minutes, from around 4:40 p.m. until about 5:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service wrote that at 5:03 p.m. a severe storm was detected in Ellicott City capable of producing hail up to the size of quarters and winds up to 60 mph.
