Tomorrow is the last day to apply for a free tree.

People who had not previously applied still have time sign up to receive one tree per residence. 2010 MORE Trees in 2010 is part of the Howard County Plant (it) Green program, and paid for by the Forest Conservation fund.

Residents who applied for trees in the spring were able to pick two trees, but the response was so big, it left more than 1,500 people on a waiting list and all of the available 2,010 trees were reserved within 36 hours.

  • Red Maple (Acer Rubrum)
  • Serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis)
  • Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida)

The selection of trees is a result of feedback from residents.

The trees that will be provided are not saplings; they may be up to five feet tall and will be delivered in two- to five-gallon containers. Be sure you have space for your tree, and, if applicable, check with any neighborhood associations about landscaping rules and procedures.

Order forms are available online on the Live Green Howard website.  Trees will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.

Tree pick-up will be Fri., Oct. 1 from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. or Sat., Oct. 2 from 7 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Pick up sites will be at West Friendship Park, 12985 Frederick Rd., West Friendship and Dorsey Building, 9250 Bendix Rd., Columbia.
