Ellicott City Today: October 10

Head into the day a little more informed.

It's almost like summer never left. The National Weather Service is forecasting a high temperature of 79 degrees today with clear, sunny skies. Skies should stay clear tonight when temperatures drop to about 57 degrees.

Howard County government offices, courts and animal shelter will be closed today in observance of Columbus Day. Trash and recycling services will remain on their normal schedule and the landfill will be open. The Howard Transit and Connect-A-Ride Bus services will operate on a regular weekday schedule. For Howard Transit's complete holiday schedule, call 1-800-270-9553. All parking regulations and fees will be in effect.

The Howard County Public Schools Parent Teacher Connection begins its 10th year on HCPSS-TV today with an interview with Police Chief William McMahon. He'll talk about speed cameras. This year, Bruce Johnson and Jennifer Johnson plan to interview a full roster of school and community leaders in celebration of the show's 10th anniversary. Watch Wednesdays at 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.; Saturdays at 3 p.m.; and Sundays at noon and 5 p.m on cable channel 95 (Comcast) and cable channel 42 (Verizon). To view the program online, click here.
