Ellicott City Teen Faces Terror Charges

Authorities say the teen conspired with "Jihad Jane."

An Ellicott City teenager has been charged with soliciting money for a woman who was convicted of conspiring in a terrorism plot, according to newspaper reports.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday that the 17-year-old allegedly conspired in a terrorism plot with a Philadelphia-area woman called “Jihad Jane.” 

An unnamed law enforcement source confirmed earlier reports that the 17-year-old was headed to Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship but, according to the Baltimore Sun, the student had withdrawn from school.

“Jihad Jane” is Colleen LaRose, a woman from the Philadelphia suburbs who pleaded guilty in February to several terrorism charges, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. According to the Inquirer, documents in LaRose’s indictment says the Ellicott City teenager used the Internet to ask for “funds to support terrorism on behalf of Colleen R. LaRose.”

According to the Inquirer, LaRose’s indictment quoted the teenager’s solicitation:

“I write this message on behalf of a respected sister … The sister has been in touch with a brother … [who] has appealed for urgent funds stating that his resources are limited … The sister has provided me proofs that have confirmed that the brother is true. I know the sister and by Allah, all money will be transferred to her.”
