Pedestrian safety project is underway between the Mall in Columbia and Merriweather Post Pavilion

Work is set to begin next week on a water main near U.S. Route 29 and Montgomery Road in Ellicott City.

Crews will be replacing a 30-inch water main with a 48-inch water main beginning Tuesday, Oct. 12. Work is expected to continue through the winter, into April of next year.

Construction will take place daily, mainly from 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Some parts of the construction may require work around the clock.

Traffic is not expected to be seriously disrupted, but there will be signage alerting drivers of the construction, and directing traffic as needed.

In Columbia, a project is getting underway to improve pedestrian safety on Pautuxnet Parkway between the Mall and Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Work is scheduled to begin in mid-October. A mid-block pedestrian crosswalk will include sidewalks, crosswalk striping, pedestrian crossing signs and ADA-compliant ramps.

The project should be completed by early November. During construction, signage will direct traffic as needed of lane closures.
