Be Thankful for Sunny Skies

The Thanksgiving forecast calls for blue skies, brisk temperatures.

The sun has certainly been a tease this week, but according to the National Weather Service, it’s set to shine for Thanksgiving and most of the weekend.

Clouds will return just in time for Cyber Monday, which doesn’t require sunshine or pleasant temperatures anyway, just an Internet connection.

Temperatures should reach the mid-50s Thursday, with clear, sunny skies thanks to a high-pressure front across the area according to Carrie Suffern at NWS. Bring a coat if you plan to do some of that , because temperatures should drop to the low-to mid 30s at night.

For Black Friday, it looks like highs in the low 60s, again with clear, sunny skies and temperatures dropping about 30 degrees Friday night.

And on Small Business Saturday, another mild day, with temperatures again hitting the mid-60s and dropping to the mid-40s over night.

The 20-degree-plus temperature changes are quite a departure from Tuesday when the high and low temperatures were just a few degrees apart. That’s because of the cloud cover, Suffern said, especially low cloud cover.

“Clouds act like a blanket at night,” she said -- keeping the day’s warm air from escaping into the atmosphere – “and a shield during the day” – preventing the sun from heating things up at the surface.”

We won’t see clouds again in the area until Sunday afternoon, Suffern said, thanks to a low-pressure front that may also bring some rain. So think layers.
