JA of Central Maryland Names Arthur Flach Board Chair

Junior Achievement of Central Maryland (JA) has appointed Arthur E. Flach, CPA to a two-year term as chairman of its board of directors.

“Junior Achievement imparts financial knowledge that resonates among our children and connects classroom learning to real life,” said Flach, who joined the JA board in 2009 and has served as a vice chair since 2011. “I am proud to be the JA board chair and look forward to an exciting and rewarding school year.”

With more than 30 years of accounting industry experience, Flach is a tax services partner with Grant Thornton LLP. In addition to serving as the partner-in-charge of the Baltimore office, Flach is responsible for income tax planning, tax provision and internal controls work, and tax consultation and compliance responsibilities for major Mid-Atlantic clients. He also handles numerous client engagements, providing tax structuring and planning for significant business transactions.

Previously recognized as one of the Top 50 CPAs in Maryland by Baltimore SmartCEO, Flach has testified numerous times on tax-related issues before the Maryland’s Senate Finance Committee and House Economics Matters Committee.

Flach currently serves on the Charles Street Development Corporation board, University of Baltimore

Accounting Advisory Board and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra audit committee. A past chairman of the board of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and a past chairman of the Accounting Advisory Board of the Sellinger School of Business and Management at Loyola University, he also served on the State of Maryland Banking Board.

The Ellicott City resident earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Loyola College and a master’s degree in taxation from the University of Baltimore. He also has attended and taught continuing education programs in tax specialty areas.
