Yoga is Coming to Main Street

A new yoga studio will be opening in February.

Main Street is about to get a bit more peaceful.

which opened as a yoga clothing and accessory store in November, is expanding, adding a yoga studio above the store, offering classes throughout the day where residents can stretch their minds and bodies.

Friends started asking owner Hilary Brich “How can I start doing yoga here in the neighborhood?” and Brich started thinking. In an interview with Patch in December, Brich, an Ellicott City resident, said she was interested in opening up a studio in addition to her clothing store.

She moved quickly.

The studio, at 8289 Main Street, will have a grand opening party on Feb. 2 from 1 – 5 p.m. There, potential students will be able to meet the instructors and sit in on free yoga classes, sampling different styles.

Mats will be available to borrow for those who don’t have one.

There will be a Q&A session after each abbreviated yoga class where teachers will answer questions about the practice and attendees can receive discounts on classes, which will begin Feb. 4.

The shop is also hosting a "resolution renewal party" on Jan. 26 to help people "recommit to your New Year's fitness resolutions."

Hw about a gentle yoga for us 'mature' folks who have grown babies? :)

I like the idea of combining the gentle yoga for mature folks with prenatal yoga -- so us pregnant ladies can get some baby advice from those who've been through it -- of course, also, while doing some yoga. :)

Gentle yoga for mature folks in mid day gets my vote.

Yet another vote for prenatal yoga! But I'd be careful about finding the right instructor I combining classes - yoga for the mature is different than for us pregnant folks. We had a mature yoga teacher sub for my prenatal yoga class during my last pregnancy and none of us could do the moves! The instructor didn't understand which ways we aren't suppossed to bend and that we had these bellies preventing us from bending other ways she wanted us to bend! It was really stressful for all of us!
