Future of Ellicott City Sears is Uncertain

Sears Holding Corp. will be closing up to 120 stores but no word yet on which ones.

Sears Holdings Corp. announced today that it expects to close between 100 and 120 Sears and Kmart stores after low holiday sales, according to the Wall Street Journal.

According to the Sears Holdings Corp. website, the company has not yet decided what stores will be closed. A manager at the said she had “absolutely no comment” about the fate of that particular store, on Route 40.

A list of stores slated to be closed will be posted at www.searsmedia.com after the determination is made, according to the website.

The closings will be aimed at “marginally performing” stores, the Journal reported, though no definition of that was given.

A statement from the company said the closures are expected to generate $140 - $170 million.

I don't see this store long for this world. It seems everytime I go there, they have more employees working than customers. Also, its very rare that their register lines are going. You usually buy your items at the customer service counter. So sad. They should have kept it as a K-Mart.

I absolutely hated going to the Sears in Columbia Mall, so I was delighted when this store opened. I've actually reduced my Walmart visits and bought more product here because of the ease of shopping...no parking problems and no waiying in line. Plus, the prices are good. I would be disappointed if they closed..

Good riddance. Make it an ice rink.

Completely empty shelves two days before Christmas. I would not be surprised at all if this store is a goner.

I was there in the late afternoon on Christmas Eve. The only shelves that were empty were the toy shelves, and that was because toys were being discounted up to 60%.. Selections on other items - clothes, small appliances, etc. - were still relatively good. I picked up a few last minute clothing items for my grand-daughter. While this store may be one that is closed, it looks like they had pretty good holiday sales.
