Maryland Unemployment Rate Continues to Fall

Maryland's unemployment rate continues to remain below the national rate, as the overall jobless rate fell in December.

Unemployment continues to drop in Maryland, according to the latest U.S. Department of Labor unemployment numbers, falling to 6.1 percent in December.

The private sector created 7,000 jobs, while the public sector added 300 positions, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

Job growth means Maryland’s unemployment rate has dropped a full percentage point, from 7.1 percent to 6.1 percent, since July 2013. And it declined from 6.4 percent in November to 6.1 percent last month, federal officials said.
