Maryland Lottery Signs Off on Maryland Live! Casino

The casino at Arundel Mills opens at 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Maryland Live!—the casino opening this week at Arundel Mills—marked a milestone Monday.

“I’m pleased to announce that today the Maryland Lottery did sign off on all of the final requirements for the casino and signed the operations license,” Stephen Martino, director of the Maryland Lottery, said during a community forum Monday night at Dave and Buster's in Arundel Mills.

Maryland Lottery, the agency responsible for regulating the state's slots programs, had to ensure the casino complied with Maryland regulations before awarding the license.

Over the weekend, the Maryland Lottery conducted a “controlled demonstration,” at the Hanover casino to test the 3,100 slot machines, surveillance and security, technical systems, food and beverage services, employee training and internal controls.

The Maryland Live! test run took place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., by invitation only, and had a line of people snaking from the casino’s entrance past Medieval Times, said Martino.

“On Saturday, the casino had 7,500 people that came through the door so we were very pleased with the turnout,” said Martino.

“We had several calls today with the casino and in every way are satisfied they have met all legal and regulatory obligations we have for them. There were really no outstanding questions and we were pleased to be able to assign the license,” said Martino. “We look forward to their grand opening."

The casino will and is open to the public.
