Free Parking in Historic Ellicott City

From Nov. 25 - Jan. 2, Main Street patrons will be able to park for free.

It’s a sign of the approaching holiday season: Free parking in Ellicott City’s historic district.

County Executive Ken Ulman announced today that parking will be free in the more than 140 metered spots in the Historic District from Nov. 25 – Jan 2.

Although meters will be free, the county is still asking that shoppers limit parking time to two hours, the same time limit as non-metered spaces.

“Executive Ulman’s decision is great news; free parking impacts Historic Ellicott City’s local merchants, businesses and the patrons that support them,” Ed Lilley, President of the Ellicott City Restoration Foundation, said in a statement.

The free parking will be in effect during the busy holiday shopping season, which includes the weekend of the 34th Annual Midnight Madness Celebration, Dec. 2.

“Ellicott City is a fabulous place to visit and shop anytime of the year,”  Ulman said in a statement.  “And if free parking helps, even a small bit, we want to help local small businesses weather this challenging economy.”
