Our StoryCraft Box™ is a tool for parents and caregivers to make reading interactive. The StoryCraft Box™ is equipped with all of the supplies needed to complete two crafts based on a particular theme of the included storybook. Furthermore, each box contains supplemental reading questions to help parents and caregivers work with children on the much-needed skills of both comprehension and cognition.  Each box contains an Enrichment Card for each child to further his or her learning and the theme of the book once the craft has been completed. These cards feature activities that revolve around a work of art and a piece of music, a career and, lastly, a green, healthy living initiative.

As a former teacher, I know how important it is to have children understand not just the words they are reading but the "who, what when, where and WHY" of what they are reading.  In our product, there are multiple ways to accomplish this.  The craft piece of our box not only teaches different art techniques, but also relates back to the theme of the book in a way that makes the child need to "read into" the story behind the story.  The Enrichment piece was designed with the same concept; and the comprehension questions represent specific details from the story and also deeper cognition of the themes and actions within the story.

The skill of reading begins long before a child can actually recognize words.  That being said, as a child grows into an elementary age reader he/she needs to be able to compute the story.  Additionally, there are children who need help cultivating this particular skill.  Recognizing this is of the utmost importance as reading builds from simple sentences like "See Spot Run" to more complex ideas such as "Napoleon Bonaparte was the first emperor of France."

Ultimately, our collective goal is to instill in our children a love of the printed word and set the foundation for a lifelong love affair with reading!
