Would the 2013 Emmys Have Been the Same Without Maryland?

Gov. Martin O'Malley clearly thinks not.

What did Maryland have to do with the 2013 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles? Plenty, if you know your television trivia.

VEEP, the HBO comedy series about a female vice president, and House of Cards, the ground-breaking Netflix drama about political gamesmanship in Washington, are both filmed in Maryland.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who once attended school in Bethesda, won best lead actor in a comedy for her starring role in VEEP, and Tony Hale won best supporting actor for his role as Veep Selina Meyer's spineless staffer, Gary.

House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey, got three Emmy wins, including for David Fincher, named  Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

Gov. Martin O'Malley apparently appreciated the attention to these award-winners and, by association, to Maryland.

"Congrats to @VeepHBO and @HouseofCards on the Emmy Awards last night -- two excellent shows filmed in Maryland," he tweeted Monday morning.
